Ciao, I’m Massimo!
I grew up in northern Italy, in a place where food was never just food: it meant getting through long winters, it was neighbors saying thank you and it was stories told around the table. I remember my grandmother turning a handful of beans, a little flour, yesterday’s bread into meals that fed a the whole family. Nothing wasted, everything had a meaning.
Later I left Italy. I wanted to see the world and learn how others lived and ate. My journey brought me to Sweden, where I’ve lived for almost a decade. But wherever I went, I carried Italy with me: in the flavors I missed, in the stories I remembered, and in the need to bring those memories back to life.
Outside Italy I found something surprising. The idea of “Italian food” had become narrow: Pizza, pasta and tiramisù, all wonderful, but only touching the surface. The Italy I left has twenty regions, each with its own voice. Some dishes became famous, many others never left their towns or homes. They stayed in the memory of nonne, or in trattorie off the main road. Slowly, many began to disappear.
That’s why I started this project: to bring those forgotten classics back, one recipe and one story at a time. I think of it as a long wooden table, i’m at the stove, you’re right there with me. We cook, we talk, we pass the bread, and we keep the old dishes alive.
Each week, I share dishes you won’t find in restaurants with recipes that carry the flavor of history, memory, and home.
If you’re here as a free subscriber, benvenuto! Each week you’ll get a full recipe with its story, clear steps, and small notes from my kitchen. I’ll also share photos and videos so you can follow along as if you were right beside me.
If you choose to join as a paying supporter, the table opens wider! You’ll get two more full recipes every week, plus complete access to the archive, where dozens of forgotten dishes ready to cook whenever you like are waiting for you. You’ll also be part of the conversation: sharing stories, asking questions, and helping shape what we bring back next.
And if you’ve chosen to be a founding member, you’re not only sitting at the table, you’re helping build it. I’ll thank you personally, and you’ll have a voice in choosing which recipes and traditions we uncover together.
Why does this matter? Because when a dish is cooked again, it doesn’t vanish. It moves forward with us. Every pot of soup, every sweet for a holiday and every farmer’s dish or fisherman’s stew carries history, memory, and family. Your support keeps them from slipping away, and it gives me the time to research, test, and share them in a way you can trust.
So welcome. However you’ve arrived, free, supporting, or founding, I’m glad you’re here. Together we’ll keep these traditions alive, one recipe at a time.
